Tom Waits is an American musician, composer, songwriter, and actor who starred in Jim Jarmusch's Down by Law (1986). His career began in the 1970s with jazz-oriented albums like Closing Time (1973) and The Heart of Saturday Night (1974). Waits produced the soundtrack for One from the Heart (1981) and made cameo appearances in several films directed by Francis Ford Coppola. He has also collaborated with theatre director Robert Wilson on musicals such as The Black Rider (1990) and Alice (1992). In addition to his film work, he has received multiple Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
