Michael Gambon is an Irish-English actor who gained prominence for his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series from 2004 to 2011. He began his acting career as one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre under Laurence Olivier. Over his extensive career, Gambon earned three Olivier Awards and four BAFTA TV Awards. His notable film credits include The King's Speech (2010), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), and Paddington (2014). In addition to his film work, he received acclaim for his television performances, winning BAFTA Awards for The Singing Detective (1986) and Longitude (2000). Gambon was knighted in 1998.
