William L. Petersen is an American actor who played Dr. Gilbert "Gil" Grissom in the series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He gained prominence with his role as Will Graham in the film Manhunter (1986) and portrayed Richard Chance in To Live and Die in L.A. (1985). Petersen began his career in theater, performing with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and later transitioned to film, establishing himself in crime dramas and thrillers. His notable works also include the film Fear (1996). Petersen received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 3, 2009.
