Wilford Brimley was an American actor and singer who established himself as a character actor through roles in notable films such as The China Syndrome (1979), The Thing (1982), and The Natural (1984). He began his career as an extra in Western films after serving in the Marines and took on various odd jobs. Brimley had a long-standing association with the Quaker Oats Company, featuring prominently in their television advertisements, and he actively promoted diabetes education through commercials for Liberty Medical. He appeared in Borderline (1980).
