Walter Gotell is a German actor who portrayed KGB General Anatol Gogol in the James Bond film series, starting with The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977. His film career began in 1943 with roles typically as German henchmen, including in We Dive at Dawn. He gained prominence in the 1950s with performances in notable films such as The African Queen (1951), Ice-Cold in Alex (1958), and The Guns of Navarone (1961). In addition to his film work, Gotell made numerous television appearances, including a significant role as Chief Constable Cullen in Softly, Softly: Taskforce from 1969 to 1975. He played both a villain and an ally in the Bond series.
