Utpal Dutt was a pioneering figure in Modern Indian theatre, having founded the "Little Theatre Group" in 1949. He had a prolific career as an actor, director, and writer-playwright, primarily in Bengali theatre, and acted in over 100 films across Bengali and Hindi cinema. Notable films include Bhuvan Shome (1969), Agantuk (1991), and Gol Maal (1979). Dutt's works often reflected his Marxist ideologies, particularly in socio-political plays like Kallol (1965) and Maha-Bidroha. He also appeared in The Stranger (1991) and Angoor (1982). His role as Sir Digindra Narayan in Byomkesh Bakshi (1993) was among his last performances before his passing.
