Ulrich Matthes is a German actor who played Fr. Henri Kremer in The Ninth Day (2004). He studied acting under Else Bongers in Berlin during the early 1980s and initially pursued a degree in German and English with the intention of becoming a teacher. Matthes began his career at the Vereinigte Bühnen in Krefeld, later performing at various prestigious theaters including the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and the Bavarian State Theatre. He has been a member of the ensemble at Deutsches Theater in Berlin since the 2004/2005 season. His notable film credits include A Hidden Life (2019) and Munich - The Edge of War (2021). In 2005, he was awarded 'Actor of the Year' by Theater heute for his role in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?.
