Thomas Pesquet is a French aerospace engineer and astronaut selected by the European Space Agency in 2009. He completed his basic astronaut training in 2010. Pesquet participated in two missions aboard the International Space Station, serving as a flight engineer during Expeditions 50 and 51 from November 2016 to June 2017, and returning for a second six-month stay in April 2021. He is a skilled pilot with over 2000 hours of flying experience and has qualifications as a flight instructor. Pesquet is also a black belt in judo and enjoys various outdoor activities. He is a member of the European Astronaut Corps.
