Suzanne Shepherd is an American actress and theater director who played Karen's overbearing mother in Goodfellas (1990). She portrayed Mary De Angelis, Carmela Soprano's mother, in the HBO series The Sopranos and also appeared as the assistant school principal in Uncle Buck (1989). Shepherd studied acting under Sanford Meisner and became the first woman to teach his program. Additionally, she was a founding member of the Compass Players in the early 1960s, alongside notable actors like Alan Alda and Alan Arkin. Shepherd's work in film includes Jacob's Ladder (1990).
