Sue Johnston is an English actress who played Sheila Grant in the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside from 1982 to 1990. She gained further recognition for her role as Barbara Royle in the BBC comedy The Royle Family, appearing from 1998 to 2010. Johnston also portrayed Grace Foley in the BBC drama Waking the Dead from 2000 to 2011 and Gloria Price in the ITV soap Coronation Street between 2012 and 2014. Additionally, she appeared as Miss Denker in the ITV series Downton Abbey from 2014 to 2015. In 2000, she received the British Comedy Award for Best TV Comedy Actress for her work on The Royle Family.
