Shelley Duvall is an American actress who gained prominence for her role as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining (1980). She was discovered by director Robert Altman, who cast her in the 1970 film Brewster McCloud, leading to a fruitful collaboration that included notable works such as McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) and Nashville (1975). Duvall earned critical acclaim for her performance in 3 Women (1977), winning the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress. Other significant appearances include Olive Oyl in Popeye (1980) and a role in Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977). In the latter part of her career, she created and hosted children's programming, including Faerie Tale Theatre (1982–1987). Duvall's last film role was in Manna from Heaven (2002).
