S. Epatha Merkerson is an American actress who has won a Golden Globe and multiple Emmy Awards. She portrayed NYPD Lieutenant Anita Van Buren in the NBC series Law & Order, appearing in 390 episodes from 1993 to 2010, more than any other cast member. Merkerson's film credits include roles in Jacob's Ladder (1990), Radio (2003), and Lincoln (2012), among others. She starred in the NBC series Chicago Med as Sharon Goodwin and had a recurring role on Pee-wee's Playhouse. Merkerson has received 4 NAACP Image Awards and 2 Tony Award nominations.
