Ryuhei Matsuda is a Japanese actor known for his role as the young samurai Sōzaburō Kanō in the film Taboo (1999). His performance in this film earned him several accolades, including the Japanese Academy's 'Newcomer of the Year' award and recognition from the Blue Ribbon, Kinema Junpo, and Yokohama Film Festivals. Matsuda played high school student Kujo in Blue Spring (2001) and rock star Ren Honjo in Nana (2005). He portrayed a Japanese gangster in the sequel to The Raid, titled Berandal, and played Ryūnosuke Akutagawa in A Stranger in Shanghai (2020). His role in Taboo marked a significant turning point in his career, establishing him as a prominent figure in Japanese cinema.
