Roman Polanski is a Polish-French film director who made his feature-length debut with Knife in the Water (1962). He gained international acclaim with his horror film Rosemary's Baby (1968), which won an Academy Award. Polanski's film The Pianist (2002) earned him an Oscar for Best Director, along with three other Academy Awards. His notable works include Chinatown (1974), which received eleven Oscar nominations, and The Tenant (1976), completing his 'Apartment Trilogy.' Despite legal controversies, Polanski has continued to create films, with Oliver Twist (2005) and The Ghost Writer (2010) being among his later projects. He has received multiple prestigious awards, including two Baftas and four Césars.
