Rohini Hattangadi is the only Indian actress to receive a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Kasturba Gandhi in Gandhi (1982). She began her film career with Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan in 1978 after primarily working in theatre. Hattangadi has appeared in over 80 feature films, including significant roles in Arth (1982), Damini (1993), and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003). Throughout her career, she has won two Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. Often typecast in mother roles, she has made a lasting impact in both mainstream and art cinema. Hattangadi is an alumna of the National School of Drama in New Delhi.
