Robert Earl Jones was an American actor who appeared in Lying Lips (1939). A prominent figure in early black cinema, he was connected to the Harlem Renaissance and collaborated with Langston Hughes. His notable performances include supporting roles in The Sting (1973), Trading Places (1983), The Cotton Club (1984), and Witness (1985). He was also the father of actor James Earl Jones.
