Richard Todd is an Irish actor who received a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male. He earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his role as Corporal Lachlan MacLachlan in the film The Hasty Heart (1949). Todd's prominent performances include Jonathan Cooper in Stage Fright (1950), Wing Commander Guy Gibson in The Dam Busters (1955), Sir Walter Raleigh in The Virgin Queen (1955), and Major John Howard in The Longest Day (1962). Before his acting career, he served as a Captain in the British Army during World War II, participating in the D-Day landings. He appeared in No. 1 of the Secret Service (1977).
