Richard Griffiths was an English actor who portrayed Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter series from 2001 to 2010. He received a Tony Award for his role in The History Boys. Griffiths had a diverse career in film and television, appearing in notable works such as Withnail and I (1987), Pie in the Sky (1994–1997), and the film adaptation of The History Boys (2006), for which he earned a BAFTA nomination. His film credits also include supporting roles in Chariots of Fire (1981), Gandhi (1982), and appearances in Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Hugo (2011).
