Richard Deacon was an American actor who played Mel Cooley in The Dick Van Dyke Show. He appeared in notable television series including Leave It to Beaver as Fred Rutherford and had roles in films such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963). Deacon also featured in the film Piranha (1978).
