René Cardona is a Mexican director who produced, wrote, directed, and starred in the first Spanish-language film made in Hollywood, Sombras habaneras (1929). He began his career in the film industry as an extra and later worked in various roles, gaining experience in film and lighting techniques. Cardona moved to Mexico in 1932, where he made his acting debut and collaborated with director Miguel Zacarías. His notable works include Mano a mano (1932) and Sobre las olas (1932). He also directed Un novio para dos hermanas (1967).
