Rachel Ward is an English-Australian actress who received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Sharky's Machine (1981). She gained significant recognition for her role as Meggie Cleary in the miniseries The Thorn Birds (1983), which earned her another Golden Globe nomination. Ward also starred in notable films such as Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) and Against All Odds (1984). In addition to acting, she has directed feature films, including Beautiful Kate (2009), which she adapted from a novel. Ward has been honored with an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Short Fiction Film for The Big House (2001). She has been married to actor Bryan Brown since 1983 and has three children, including actress Matilda Brown.
