R. Lee Ermey is a United States Marine Corps drill instructor and actor who gained fame for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket (1987). He frequently portrayed authoritative characters, including Mayor Tilman in Mississippi Burning (1988), Bill Bowerman in Prefontaine (1997), and Sheriff Hoyt in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003). Ermey lent his voice to Sarge, the leader of the plastic army men, in the Toy Story franchise, appearing in Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999). He also hosted two programs on the History Channel, Mail Call and Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey. He appeared in Saving Silverman (2001).
