Peter Vaughan was an English character actor who played Grouty in the sitcom Porridge and its 1979 film adaptation. He had a prolific career in both film and television, with notable performances in productions such as Citizen Smith, Straw Dogs, and Time Bandits. Vaughan also appeared in The Remains of the Day and had a significant role as Maester Aemon in HBO's Game of Thrones. Vaughan's film credits include The Razor's Edge (1984).
