Peter Coyote is an American actor, author, director, screenwriter, and narrator. He began his career in the mid-1960s as a founder of the Diggers, an anarchist improv group, and was involved with the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Coyote's film credits include roles in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Erin Brockovich (2000). He served as chairman of the California Arts Council from 1975 to 1983. Coyote also co-authored the play Olive Pits, which earned the San Francisco Mime Troupe an Obie Award.
