Paul Williams is an American composer, singer, songwriter, and actor who wrote the score and lyrics for Bugsy Malone (1976). His work in the 1970s includes popular songs like "An Old Fashioned Love Song" and "We've Only Just Begun," performed by Three Dog Night and the Carpenters, respectively. Williams also penned the Oscar-nominated song "Rainbow Connection" from The Muppet Movie and the Grammy-winning "Evergreen" from A Star Is Born. He appeared in notable films such as Smokey and the Bandit (1977) and Phantom of the Paradise (1974), the latter of which he co-scored, earning an Oscar nomination. Williams was involved in The Cheap Detective (1978) as well.
