Patrick McGoohan was an American-born actor who starred in the television series The Prisoner (1967). He had a diverse career in both stage and film, gaining prominence in the 1960s with his role in Danger Man, which was known as Secret Agent in the United States. McGoohan also directed and wrote several episodes of The Prisoner under the pseudonyms Joseph Serf and Paddy Fitz. His film credits include David Cronenberg's Scanners (1981), Mel Gibson's Braveheart (1995), and he appeared in multiple episodes of Columbo, winning two Emmy Awards. He is featured in the film Escape from Alcatraz (1979).
