Nigel Hawthorne is an English actor who portrayed Sir Humphrey Appleby in the television series Yes Minister and its sequel Yes, Prime Minister. He received four BAFTA Awards in the 1980s for Best Light Entertainment Performance for this role. In the 1990s, he won two additional BAFTA Awards, one for Best TV Actor for The Fragile Heart and another for Best Film Actor for The Madness of King George, which also earned him an Academy Award nomination. Hawthorne's film credits include The Black Cauldron (1985).
