Michael Lonsdale was a French-British actor who gained prominence for his role as the villain Hugo Drax in the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker. He appeared in over 180 films and television series throughout his career, including notable performances as deputy police commissioner Claude Lebel in The Day of the Jackal (1973), The Abbot in The Name of the Rose (1986), and Dupont d'Ivry in The Remains of the Day (1993). Lonsdale also starred in Munich (2005), sharing the screen with Daniel Craig. He received a César Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2011 for his role in Of Gods and Men. In addition to acting, he authored ten books during his lifetime.
