Melvin Van Peebles was an American actor and filmmaker who made his feature film debut with The Story of a Three-Day Pass in 1967. He gained significant recognition for creating and starring in Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971), a film that played a pivotal role in establishing the blaxploitation genre. His career included directing the musical Don't Play Us Cheap and producing various works in both English and French. Van Peebles also appeared in Jaws: The Revenge (1987) and continued to create films until his later works, such as Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha (2008). His son, Mario Van Peebles, featured in multiple projects alongside him and portrayed him in the film Baadasssss! (2003).
