Matthew Shear is an American actor who made his directorial debut with Fantasy Life (2025), a film he also wrote and starred in. He began acting with a minor role in Taking Woodstock (2009) and has worked on projects such as Mistress America (2015), The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (2017), and Marriage Story (2019). Shear portrayed Lucius Isaacson in the series The Alienist (2018–2020). His collaborations with director Noah Baumbach have been notable in his career.
