Marne Maitland is a distinctive character actor who appeared in The Terror of the Tongs (1961). Educated at Magdalen College, Cambridge, Maitland's acting journey was interrupted by six years of service in the British Army. He later joined the Old Vic Company and transitioned to screen acting, often portraying sinister villains with his unique features. His notable roles include commissioner Govindaswami in La croisée des destins (1956) and a cardinal in Les souliers de Saint-Pierre (1968). Maitland also had significant television appearances, such as the mysterious Pandit Baba in the award-winning miniseries The Jewel in the Crown (1984). He worked with Hammer Studios early in his career, featuring as Patel Shari in Les étrangleurs de Bombay (1959).
