Manoj Mitra was an Indian theatre, film, and television actor, director, and playwright who gained prominence in Bengali theatre. He initiated his journey in theatre at Scottish Church College in Kolkata and later became a leading playwright in West Bengal, with over a hundred plays to his credit, including 'Sajano Bagaan' and 'Kaalbihongo'. Mitra also appeared in notable films such as 'Hothat Bristy' (1998), 'Dui Prithibi' (2010), and 'Alinagarer Golokdhadha' (2018). He served as the head of the drama department at Rabindra Bharati University. He was recognized as the President of the Paschim Banga Natya Akademi until his resignation in August 2019 due to health concerns.
