Manabi Bandyopadhyay is the first transgender person in India to complete a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). She served as an associate professor in Bengali at Vivekananda Satobarshiki Mahavidyalaya before becoming the principal of Krishnagar Women's College in 2015, making her the first openly transgender college principal in the country.
