Mako is a Japanese-American actor who gained recognition for his role in the film "Seven Years in Tibet" (1997). He initially studied architecture before discovering his passion for acting during his military service. Mako trained at the Pasadena Community Playhouse and later appeared in notable films such as "Pearl Harbor" (2001) and "The Sand Pebbles" (1966). His career spanned several decades, during which he became a naturalized American citizen in 1956. Mako was married to actress Shizuko Hoshi, and they had two daughters who also pursued acting careers.
