Lurene Tuttle was a character actress who made her film debut in Heaven Only Knows (1947). She transitioned from vaudeville to radio before appearing in films and television. Tuttle's film appearances include roles in Orson Welles's Macbeth (1948), Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) as Sheriff Chambers's wife, and Don't Bother to Knock (1952) alongside Marilyn Monroe. She also starred in Ma Barker's Killer Brood (1960) and played Grandma Pusser in the original Walking Tall trilogy. With over 100 television appearances, she portrayed wise and loving maternal figures, such as Lavinia Day in Life with Father (1953–1955).
