Lupita Nyong'o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress who won an Academy Award for her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave (2013). She began her Hollywood career as a production assistant before making her acting debut in the short film East River (2008). Following her performance in 12 Years a Slave, she appeared in notable films such as Black Panther (2018) and Us (2019). Nyong'o also performed as Maz Kanata in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (2015–2019) and voiced Raksha in The Jungle Book (2016). In addition to her acting career, she authored the children's book Sulwe (2019), which became a New York Times Best-Seller. Nyong'o received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her narration in Serengeti (2019).
