Linda Lavin is an American actress who played the title character in the sitcom "Alice" (1976-1985). She began her career in the late 1950s with the Compass Players and made her Broadway debut in the 1960s, gaining recognition for her role in "It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman" (1966). Lavin received her first Tony Award nomination for "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" in 1970 and later won a Tony for her performance in "Broadway Bound" (1987).
