LeVar Burton is an American actor, director, and television host who played Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994). He gained prominence for his role as Kunta Kinte in the miniseries Roots (1977) and hosted the PBS Kids series Reading Rainbow for 23 years (1983–2006). Burton's film credits include Cap Jackson in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977), Donald Lang in Dummy (1979), and Martin Luther King Jr. in Ali (2001). He won 12 Daytime Emmy Awards and received a Peabody Award for his work on Reading Rainbow. Additionally, he earned a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for narrating The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr.
