Leslie Phillips was an English actor who provided the voice of the Sorting Hat in several Harry Potter films. He gained fame in the 1950s for his charming portrayals in comedic roles, often using his signature catchphrases like "Ding dong" and "Hello." His extensive career included appearances in the Carry On and Doctor in the House film series, as well as the BBC radio comedy The Navy Lark. Phillips also took on more serious roles later in his career, earning a BAFTA nomination for his performance alongside Peter O'Toole in Venus (2006). He appeared in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Out of Africa (1985).
