Lee J. Cobb was an American actor who made his film debut in The Vanishing Shadow (1934). He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in On the Waterfront (1954) and performed in 12 Angry Men (1957) and The Exorcist (1973). Cobb portrayed Willy Loman in the original Broadway production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, directed by Elia Kazan. He often played imposing characters and took on roles of authority, such as judges. His performance as King Lear in 1968 set a record for the longest run of the play on Broadway. Cobb's last notable film role was as Lt. Kinderman in The Exorcist (1973).
