Laverne Cox is an American actress known for her portrayal of Sophia Burset in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She made history as the first transgender individual nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category. Cox has also won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Special as an executive producer for Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, becoming the first trans woman to achieve this honor. Her notable works include Promising Young Woman (2020) and Jolt (2021). In 2014, she became the first transgender person to grace the cover of Time magazine.
