Laura Carmichael is a British actress who portrayed Lady Edith Crawley in the television series Downton Abbey. She has appeared in the feature film A United Kingdom (2016) and the TV series Marcella (2016). Carmichael graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2007 and spent two years in various jobs while auditioning for roles. In addition to her screen work, she is a member of The Fitzrovia Radio Hour. Her notable film credits include Downton Abbey (2019) and its sequels, Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022) and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale (2025).
