Kirk Douglas is an American actor and producer who starred as Spartacus in Spartacus (1960). He gained fame for his powerful performances, starting with his role as a boxing champion in Champion (1949), which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. Other notable films include Young Man with a Horn (1950), Ace in the Hole (1951), and Lust for Life (1956), the latter of which brought him a second Oscar nomination. Douglas founded Bryna Productions, responsible for films like Paths of Glory (1957) and Spartacus. He broke the Hollywood blacklist by crediting screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Spartacus. He received an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
