Kimberly Elise is an American actress who made her feature film debut in Set It Off. She earned critical acclaim for her role in Beloved and has appeared in notable films such as John Q (2002), The Manchurian Candidate (2004), and Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005). Elise's work extends to television, where she starred in the CBS series Close to Home (2005–07) and the VH1 series Hit the Floor. She received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead for her performance in Woman Thou Art Loosed (2004).
