Ken Curtis was an American actor who portrayed Festus Haggen in the long-running Western series Gunsmoke. He began his film career with Columbia Pictures in 1945, featuring in musical Westerns alongside the Hoosier Hot Shots. Curtis appeared in notable films such as The Searchers (1956), The Quiet Man (1952), and The Alamo (1960). He joined John Ford and John Wayne in the film Rio Grande (1950), where he contributed as a singer in The Regimental Singers. His character Festus appeared in 304 episodes of Gunsmoke from 1962 to 1974, making him the longest-serving deputy on the show. Curtis's final film appearance was in Robin Hood (1973).
