Kathy Bates is an American actress and director who won an Academy Award for her role as Annie Wilkes in Misery (1990). She began her film career with a minor role in Taking Off (1971) and gained recognition for her performances in several notable films, including Titanic (1997), Dolores Claiborne (1995), and The Waterboy (1998). Bates has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. Her television work includes a leading role in Harry's Law (2011–12) and a memorable guest appearance on Two and a Half Men (2012), for which she won an Emmy. Bates also directed episodes of Six Feet Under (2001–03) and the film Ambulance Girl (2005).
