Kate Nelligan is a British retired actress who made her film debut in The Romantic Englishwoman (1975). She trained at Glendon College and London's Central School of Speech and Drama, starting her professional career in 1972 with the Bristol Old Vic. Nelligan gained prominence in the UK with the National Theatre, performing in works such as David Hare's Knuckle (1974). Her Broadway career included four Tony Award nominations for productions like Plenty (1983) and A Moon for the Misbegotten (1984). She received a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Frankie and Johnny (1991) and was nominated for an Academy Award for The Prince of Tides (1991). Nelligan appeared in Wolf (1994) and U.S. Marshals (1998).
