Karuna Banerjee is a Bengali actress who portrayed the character Sarbajaya in Satyajit Ray's The Apu Trilogy (1955–1959). Her performance in Aparajito (1956) earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the 1959 BAFTA Awards. Banerjee's career spanned over two decades, during which she appeared in notable films such as Pather Panchali (1955), Devi (1960), and Kanchenjungha (1962). She graduated from Jogamaya Devi College, part of the University of Calcutta. Her role as Sarbajaya remains a defining part of her legacy in film.
