Judi Dench is a retired English actress who made her professional film debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company. She portrayed M in the James Bond series, starting with GoldenEye in 1995 and continuing through to Skyfall in 2012. Dench won an Academy Award for her role as Queen Victoria in Mrs. Brown (1997), and her performances in Shakespeare in Love (1998), Chocolat (2000), and Notes on a Scandal (2006) received critical acclaim.
