Joy Mathew is an Indian film director and actor who played the lead role in John Abraham's film Amma Ariyan (1986), which was recognized as one of the Top 10 Indian films by the British Film Institute. He made his directorial debut with Shutter in 2012, a film that captures unexpected events over two days and nights in Kozhikode, which premiered at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala. Mathew has written over 20 plays in Malayalam, including notable works like Athirthikkal (1989) and Madhya Dharanazhi (1996), for which he received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. His recent film credits include Naradan (2022), Edakkad Battalion 06 (2019), and Christy (2023).
